Diedre Irons Piano
Beethoven - Piano Concerto No.5 (8/11/2003)
Beethoven - Piano Concerto No.3 (10/8/2004)
Diedre Irons was born in Winnipeg, Canada. As a child prodigy she came to the attention of Russian born composer-violinist-pianist S.C. Eckhardt-Gramatté whose master pupil she became. She made her official debut with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra at age eighteen playing Stravinsky’s Concerto for Piano and Winds. After graduating from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, she was invited by her teacher, Rudolf Serkin, to join the faculty of that prestigious conservatory and she taught there for the next seven years. During those years she toured Canada and the United States as a soloist and as a chamber music player. She avoided the international competition circuit, seeing the aims of competing to conflict with those of music.

She moved to New Zealand in 1977 and has since performed frequently with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, the APO and the CSO, toured many times under the auspices of Chamber Music New Zealand, and recorded extensively for Radio New Zealand. She continues to travel internationally having presented concerts in 25 countries. Diedre was awarded an MBE for services to music in 1989. She is senior lecturer in piano at the University of Victoria in Wellington.
