The Nelson Symphony Orchestra
'Nelson's Own Symphony Orchestra' Making Music in 2009.
Welcome to another season of Nelson Symphony Orchestra concerts. If you are joining us again it is great to have you back for another year of fabulous music. If you are joining us for the first time we know you will enjoy being part of the NSO Experience.
Our virtuoso soloists for 2009 will be Diedre Irons performing the delightful Mozart Piano Concerto No 21 on March 21 and James Tennant performing the Dvorak Cello Concerto for our Winter Festival Concert at the Nelson School of Music on July 18. Both concerts will be conducted by Kenneth Young.
For the young at heart, our children’s concert, with four performances on May 16 of Carnival of the Animals and Tubby the Tuba, is sure to be a winner - both entertaining and educational!
September 5 hosts the annual Young Soloists Concerto Concert conducted by Peter van Drimmelen featuring young musicians from across New Zealand performing concerto movements with the orchestra. It's an amazing opportunity for promising young soloists and a wonderful concert to listen to and enjoy.
The 2009 Concert Series comes to a close on November 28 when we will be presenting an evening of music with an Italian theme conducted by Louise Clark. Rising stars Polly Ott (soprano) and Oliver Sewell (tenor) will join us to sing some of those well-loved operatic arias and duets. A great way to finish the year!
All tickets are available from the Nelson School of Music.
We look forward to seeing you at our concerts and we wish you the very best for 2009.
From the NSO committee
